Your baby is still packing on the pounds — at the rate of about an ounce a day. She now weighs almost 6 pounds (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. She's shedding most of the downy covering of hair that covered her body as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that covered and protected her skin during her nine-month amniotic bath. Your baby swallows both of these substances, along with other secretions, resulting in a blackish mixture, called meconium, will form the contents of her first bowel movement.
At the end of this week, your baby will be considered full-term. (Full-term is 37 to 42 weeks; babies born before 37 weeks are pre-term and those born after 42 are post-term.) Most likely she's in a head-down position. But if she isn't, your practitioner may suggest scheduling an "external cephalic version," which is a fancy way of saying she'll try to coax your baby into a head-down position by manipulating her from the outside of your belly.
Your baby doesn't have much room to maneuver now that he's over 18 inches long and tips the scales at 5 1/4 pounds (pick up a honeydew melon). Because it's so snug in your womb, he isn't likely to be doing somersaults anymore, but the number of times he kicks should remain about the same. His kidneys are fully developed now, and his liver can process some waste products. Most of his basic physical development is now complete — he'll spend the next few weeks putting on weight.
Hubby went out while I was sleeping and got me the Newborn Rock 'n Play Sleeper I wanted! It's the snuggled bunny one so it comes with an ultra plush snuggler insert that has bunny ears and a bunny rattle!
As everyone in the world knows, today is Super Bowl Sunday. Giants vs Patriots. Mike is a HUGE Giants fan, so he's obviously very excited. But what everyone probably doesn't know, is that today is also Mikes birthday. So its like a double win. We had an ice cream cake...obviously shaped like a football. And I got him a Giants hoodie, he's been looking for one since I met him. The last time the Giants went to the Super Bowl on his birthday they won...so here's to hoping. Happy Birthday to the best husband ever. I love you.
Victoria turned 13 years old on the 1st! We had a small party at her house, and she had ice cream cupcakes. Awesome. It was also Bill's birthday this month. We went over to his party. They all played 31, and in the end Mike won!
Mike and I went out to dinner with Mom and Victoria twice this month. Victoria had a chorus concert at school. She did very well. You can tell she is still very shy though.
Mike was able to get the car starter fixed in my truck finally. And I actually made time to get my hair cut! I also started back up with Therapy. So far it's going well.
I had 2 monthly OB appointments for Riley. And I also had to go to the Cardiologist twice this month. The first time they did an EKG which was fine and the second time was for an echo cardiogram. Not so pleasant, but I got the call a few hours after that everything was fine!
